How long have you been studying/practicing bonsai?
What attracted you to bonsai?
Are you actively studying with a teacher?
If yes, with whom and for how long?
In your opinion, what type of work, (pruning, wiring, detail work, etc) do you feel the most comfortable performing?
What areas do you feel the least comfortable performing?
In your opinion, what makes a great bonsai?
The most common activates needed in maintaining bonsai are tedious tasks such as weeding, plucking needles, removing dead leaves, oiling pots, scrubbing tress with toothbrushes, applying lime sculpture to deadwood ect. Each volunteer is expected to assist with this work.
Are you willing to perform these tedious but essential bonsai chores?
Bonsai are heavier than most people expect. Are you able to lift more than 25 lbs? 50lbs or more?
It can be more convenient to work on trees where they sit rather than moving them. You will be expected to work outside in less than ideal weather (hot, cold, and rainy)?
Are you able to do so?
As stated above we work on trees in various parts of the Museum and may not be able sit down when doing thus requiring volunteers to stand for 1-4 hours at a time? Are you able to do this?
As a Museum there is more we need help with than just maintain our collections. We need people to interact with the public and answer their questions. Are you interest in being trained as a docent, interacting with visitors & leading tours?
Would you be interested in helping with general gardening, working the in-ground plants/garden beds
Volunteering is twice a month, with the possibility for more based on interest. Thursdays are bonsai volunteer days, but other days may be possible.
What days/frequency are you interested in?
Do you have any special skills apart from bonsai? (carpentry/woodworking, computer skills, photography, sewing, etc)?
Why do you want to volunteer at the Pacific Bonsai Museum?
